Haunted Jail
2022
Bozeman, MT
One way we do experiments in urban design is through pop-ups. Our very first pop-up was the Haunted Jail project. We approached a local museum in Bozeman, MT that is housed in the old county jail and were fortunate to meet an Executive Director who was eager to connect with local youth and experiment with new ways to get people into the museum. We worked with 10 high school students from 4 local high schools to pull this project off. They made the decorations, decided on the theme, set the pricing, ran concessions, and came up with the marketing. After running the haunted jail for 3 nights, the students had made over $22,000 in revenue. The success of this project led to the Secret Workshop. We tell the story in greater detail on The Planet School Podcast.
